St. Francis High School: a post mortem

So, my high school career at St. Francis has finally come to an end.  After 14 consecutive years of my older brothers and sister going here, and finally me, its over.  I feel like I've been there my entire life.  But now its my turn.  Time to hand over the brown and white for some blue and yellow.  So this is what I remember from the years I've been at St. Francis...

Freshman Year

  • Brian Tran and finding out that he did water polo too and all.  And then swimming.  I met this guy in a water polo camp I think... I used my long nails that I hadn't cut in a while to cut up his back during a skirmish.  And then he was the friend of my shadow host.  Weird connections, but yea, this is how that friendship started.  Also seeing the Los Gatos girl.  Only Brian and I will get that one.
  • Band camp - and realizing that I was extremely small.  And also finding Kris again, after 6 years of not going to the same school, we were back together again!  And I threw ice down her shirt.  That was fun.
  • Band camp - meeting Javier, who is really pessemistic I thought.  He thinks we're gonna lose all our football games.  This is before he becomes a hardcore band nerd.
  • Biology X with Mr. Dozier - I asked for a fellowship every single day until he eventually gave me a referral.  Fun times.  I also did not study for a single test in his class yet on the final got 3 As.  Thank you PBS documentaries.  His final has nothing to do with anything.
  • Being mistaken for Jon Wong every day by Mr. Dozier.
  • English 1X with Tam.  Made me hate English.  Worthless class, but she's probably the only teacher to really notice me sleeping full on in her class.  She sent me out several times for it.
  • Geometry S - making water droplet sounds.  And not doing my homework which screwed me for life.
  • Wrestling.  Getting the crap beat out of me every day was actually fun.  I just couldn't not eat.
  • Frau Saundmeier: "ok, now vee do zis, and CHASE YOU SHUTTUP NOW JA???"
  • History X - Where's the black market?  Also the video that I was chosen to be in the smart girl group.  Thanks girls.  You helped me pass the class.
  • Swimming and being infatuated with Olivia Lau.  That was funny.
  • Renting out my locker to the girls that needed it.  Which led me to not use my locker for 4 years.
  • Late Night Conversations over AIM that we used to have during the summer.  That died with the year.

Sophmore Year

  • Ana telling me to take a walk with her after school one day when she finished XC.  Our first real conversation as I recall.  Is that how we met?  I can't remember.  But thats how our friendship started.
  • Making Michael Darby bleed in the bandroom.  Also got beat up by him.  Also fun.
  • Jazz band - leaving Marilie behind at Folsom.
  • Marching band - whipping Kris with the plastic flags.  It actually does hurt if you whip certain places.
  • Being mistaken for Eddie a lot.
  • Becky drawing me in German Class.
  • The start of Spannegal.  Chaos starts here.
  • Meeting Fern Wood for marching practice.  Her giving me free lemonade.
  • Having Brian Tran read over all my English essays to make sure I didn't fail.  Also helped me on the final, and lots of other stuff.  Also listened to him and his prom drama.
  • Delaney's vocab game.  And our hand signals.  Who knew hand signals would become taboo next year.
  • Swimming and the Stephany wierdness.  Good thing that blew over.
  • Religion projects with Jon Wong that always involved home movies.  And then the evil Ms. Fischer...
  • Getting Mono.  Then going on band tour with Mono.  Coulda infected all of them.  Then getting out of a semester of PE and swimming because of Mono.  Good times.
  • Summer Trig: owning Malav in math, as well as many card games.

Junior Year

  • AP US History - Cardergate anyone?  But in other news, I didn't think this class was all that hard.  Also led me to inadvertently memorize a lot of the pictures in the book.
  • Precalc with Malav and Neil.  Damn the teacher was an idiot.  But I still owned Malav.
  • Physics Bridge project, boat project, and lots and lots of Halo 2.
  • English 3H - I slept through every single class.  Complete with snoring.  Eric Wilde is the best cover person ever.  Quinn noticed nothing, even as my snoring wafted across the classroom.
  • My English game causing Becky to have a marker mark on her pants.  Ok so what I had was complete and incomplete sentences (grammer lesson).  So if its complete, you write complete on the board, and incomplete for incomplete sentences.  I read the sentences.  There's two people up, one from each side of the classroom.  There is only one pen.  I read off the sentence.  The contestents battle it out.  Lots of fun.
  • Becky and me playing hangman across the room in german class.  Also more crazy Spanntags.
  • Brian Tran dragging me to swimming for another year, where I once again claimed the title for the slowest swimmer on the team.
  • Sleeping through all of religion.  And Band.  and math.
  • Being mistaken for Ryan Tom a lot.
  • Figuring out that I was utterly screwed for college because I failed my freshman year.  And also my Junior year.

Senior Year

  • Calc Parties in the library.  Really got stuff done there.
  • Johnson's Calc class.  His last year teaching at St. Francis.  I have not learned this much ever.  He is the best math teacher I have ever had.  And I got out of the final on the very last day of class.  How awesome is that?
  • Homecoming Dance - with Malav convincing me to go.  And coming down to drive me as well.  And the night was fun as well.  Dinner at Fresh Choice, definitely the most overdressed people there, and then well, the dance.
  • Ana's Cotillion.
  • Making a lot of girl (space) friends.  Actually, not so much making them, as making them better.  I knew these people from freshman year, but didn't actually get to know them until now.  Thanks for a great 4 years.  Or 3 years.  Depending on when I knew you from.
  • Band tour and Kris trying to find me girls.  And also the phone calls I got during band tour.
  • SPANNTAGS... the final year making Frau Spannegal go insane about every single time she was here.  Then she became psycho on us.  But I wasn't here for that class when she exploded.
  • CAI project with Jon Wendy and Sonia?  Awesome.  Not knowing what the heck to say but making it up as you go along.
  • Kim's birthday lunch?  and also the secret plan to give her flowers.  Sorry Jaymee for not telling you it was me.
  • Operation Wet Seal.  Good job senior class on this one.
  • Prom 2006 - and the fiasco, the planning, and the eventual turnout.
  • San Francisco Trip - Awesome.  First time my parents let me sleepover somewhere.
  • Senior Cut Day Santa Cruz Beach trip - my first time to the beach there, and great to hang out with friends.  Also dumping Katherine into the sea multiple times.  No sunburn either!

So I could do a shout to all the people that have been great friends or influential to me, but that'd just be way too many and this post is already too long.  But there is one person who helped me throughout all high school giving me advice on stuff and everything.

Brian Tran - Dude, you're awesome.  Even though I caused you pain the very first day I met you, you're a great friend and have helped me a lot through the years.  If it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't have realized that I am actually very nerdy and thats just who I am, and that I should actually try in school.  You're dedication to what you do such as forcing me to go to swim practice when I didn't want to led by example that things had to be done, even when I really didn't want to do them.  You probably didn't realize what an influence you've had on me, academically by helping me in my classes, and mentally, keeping me on a good path, and helping me know when to get work done and when to screw around.  If I had half the brain/integrity/force you have, I'd be going places.  Thanks for everything.

So that stuff is not necessarily in order.  Nor is everything up there.  I'm sure I missed a whole lot and a whole lot of people (I'm sorry) because I can't think of it all right now.  I did miss a lot.  And I probably didn't describe everything to what it should be, so years from now, if I ever look at this, I'll still have no idea what I am talking about.  But I guess what I have to say is that it's been fun, at least some parts of it.  But if I had to do it over again, I really wouldn't.  Even though I failed my freshman and junior year, and didn't do enough everywhere, which probably caused me to do poorly when it came to college apps, who cares.  This chapter is closed.  It's time to move on.  And stop thinking the what if scenarios.  I'll definitely miss a lot of people there.  Everyone going off to college and such.  And I know that I'll lose touch with a lot of people, because thats the way things work in the world.  I'll try not to though.  So keep an open line out.  In a couple years, I may look you up.

Hey, I'm mentioned! I feel honored, kinda. There's some residual animosity, though. :P

See you around...basically all summer. Hope we still keep in touch after that.

Incidentally, today is the one year anniversary of one of the most random conversations I have ever had.

Remember that?

wtf! since when did you become a better writer than me?! lol. damn public school education already has had its impact on me! now itz YOUR turn to read MY essays! anyways, itz been a long time since those days when you scratched up my back and we pushed mitch into the pool (along w/ his cell phone and wallet). i can't even begin to count how much food i free-loaded off you while you were waiting for band practice to start or how many rides your sister gave me. we never ended up robbing ankhit, trying out for american idol, or undergoing a make-girls-look-at-us fitness regime. i still wish my hair naturally highlighted like yours. hahahaha. it was majorly good times. seriously, every time i went back and visited sfhs, i wud totally search for you. get a facebook!!!
i never knew i had that much of an impact on you. wow. i was just being a good little asian the whole time, but i guess thatz kinda what drives me. speaking of driving, we gotta hella hang out. we got all summer, dude! in either case, you've got your own academic strengths too so don't downplay yourself. you've always gotten better english grades than me and i never managed to get an A in johnson. you got a future up ahead. if you want further reassurement, half the valedictorians that i've met at cal wudn't make the top 100 at sfhs. you're smart, so be confident and totally p0wn college.

about college:
WARNING: senioritis does not disappear when you're a freshman in college! lol. make sure you get back in study mode when school starts or you're gonna get p0wned!
everybody starts college off on a clean slate. what you did back in high school doesn't matter, so make sure you do well this time around and you'll be set for life instead of just for getting into the next level of education. having a goal and having a plan to get that goal are equally important, so make sure you figure those out before you start school. you need the goal for the motivation and you need the plan to put your goal into reality. don't just randomly do things that may have relevance to your goal. always look at things and ask yourself how it will help you achieve your goal. it will sometimes get a bit depressing when you're the only one studying just because you're the only one with a major that has academic difficulty. ikezi was right when he said that humanities were easy (i never see those guys study) ... no worries, they'll just work for you in a few years. in the dorms, keep your door open when you're there to invite your floormates to hang out. join some extracurricular activities, it'll help you meet new people. watch that freshman 15 like the plague! i'm serious! i need some serious exercise cuz i'm a blimp! prepare to be heavily disappointed when you go to college, the chick hotness level will be significantly lower. various colleges will have different names for this (such as 'tunnel vision,' 'berkeley goggles,' and 'triton vision') but the end meaning is that your standards in beauty will drop as a result of not seeing hot pple.
learn how to board. thatz not optional if you're going to ucsd. chicks dig it and you move around a lot faster.
ikezi was right when he told me that college was going to be the best times of my life. don't rush it. just chill the whole way (xcept for finals week )

ps. that los gatos chick was FINE!
